Mentorship groups for mindfulness practice

Something changes when you practice together

A small group. A dedicated teacher who knows your name. And a weekly practice that builds the kind of calm, clarity, and compassion that actually stays with you.

Why it matters

What actually changes

Mindfulness isn't just about feeling calm for twenty minutes. When practiced with others — with real guidance and real connection — it starts to change how you move through your whole life.

You feel less alone

Modern life is remarkably isolating, even when we're surrounded by people. Practicing with others — being genuinely seen and heard week after week — changes that. Many of our members say their group is the most honest, caring community they have.

You become more patient

Not overnight. But gradually, the reactive moments get shorter. You notice the urge to snap before you act on it. You pause where you used to just react. Small shifts that the people closest to you begin to notice too.

You're kinder to yourself

Most of us carry a harsh inner voice we'd never use with a friend. Compassion practice — held in community — gently loosens that grip. You learn to hold yourself the way you're learning to hold others. With warmth. Without conditions.

You show up differently

More present. Less distracted. More capable of listening without immediately trying to fix. The quality of your attention — at home, at work, in every relationship — deepens when your practice is supported and sustained.

The missing piece

Why going it alone usually doesn't stick

Most of us already sense that slowing down would help. We've tried apps, read the books, listened to the podcasts. And it helps — for a while.

But apps can't notice when you've gone quiet for three weeks. They can't ask what's been happening for you, or reflect something true back about who you're becoming. They can't sit with you when something is genuinely hard.

That's what a teacher does. That's what a group does. And once you've experienced practice held in community, solo practice feels like trying to learn a language with no one to speak it with.

The research backs this up: people who practice with others are more consistent, go deeper, and report more meaningful change in their lives. But you don't need research to know it. You just need to try it once.

Practicing alone

Easy to skip. No one notices if you stop. Hard to know if you're doing it right. Progress is invisible, motivation fades.

Practicing alone

When something hard comes up in practice, you're on your own with it. No reflection, no guidance, no context.

In a Banyan Group

Your teacher and group notice your presence — and your absence. You're held accountable with warmth, not pressure.

In a Banyan Group

When something difficult arises, your teacher can help you understand it. Your peers remind you you're not alone in it.

The Banyan Mentorship Group

A small group. A dedicated teacher. Every week.

A Banyan mentorship group is a weekly live practice — online, intimate, and led by an expert teacher who gets to know you and your practice over time. No experience required. Beginners are especially welcome.

What to expect

What happens in a session

Each session is 90 minutes long. Same group, same teacher, every week. Here's how it unfolds.

Guided meditation

~ 20 minutes

Every session begins with a grounding guided practice. Your teacher reads the group and chooses the meditation most needed in this moment — whether that's breath awareness, loving-kindness, body scan, or something else entirely. You arrive scattered and leave settled.

Group check-ins

~ 40 minutes

Everyone gets time to share what's been arising in their practice and life. What are you working with? What's difficult? What surprised you? Your teacher listens deeply and may offer gentle reflection. Your peers share too — and in their honesty, you often find yourself.

Teaching and reflection

~ 30 minutes

Drawing on what's alive in the group, your teacher offers wisdom from their own lived experience — not lectures, but real guidance rooted in practice. You may explore a theme together, work in smaller pairs, or simply sit with something that has been named. It goes where it needs to.

The people who guide you

Teachers who walk the path with you

Our mentors don't just teach mindfulness — they practice it, live it, and bring decades of embodied wisdom to every session. They get to know you. They notice what you need. They're with you for the long journey.
